Here is a nice site created by some nice Canadians that list some pros and cons of different alternative energy sources--> Click Here, Eh?
There are more informative websites, but this one is quick and concise for our fast-paced world!

I realized what we're up against with decreasing our use of oil when I saw that 5 of the top 7 largest corporations in the U.S. are either oil companies or auto companies, and I don't think these companies would want us to decrease our use of oil. It's my understanding that their profits would decrease, whether we're using less of their oil or less of foreign companies' oil. So the Pickens plan would work if corporations didn't own the government, and if the media didn't consist of only four corporations. The only opinions I saw that were against the Pickens plan were put out by agencies that received funding from oil companies. We (the U.S.) need to figure out how to profit from something other than oil or that's it for us.
